In 2001, a Media Watch interview by Paul Barry ended up costing him his job.
Barry had performed a sturdy interview with ABC chairman Donald McDonald, during which he questioned if the Board nonetheless supported managing director Jonathan Shier, who was locked in a funding battle with authorities.
As his ultimate episode for 2000 he signed off saying,”We hope we’ll be again subsequent 12 months in your ABC.”
Nevertheless it was to not be, with Shier subsequently axing this system and changing it with (Stuart) Littlemore.
Shier ultimately resigned from the ABC a 12 months later with Media Watch reinstated in 2002 with new host David Marr.
Barry, who’s the present’s longest-running host, returned to the chair in 2013.
He departs on Monday.
